Death because of Pokemon?! Lavender Town Syndrome

what is this Internet myth all about?

in 1996, Pokémon green was relased in Japan. The game contains a city called Lavender town, where is a Pokémon-tower. Both, the tower and Lavender town, intend to provide a creepy atmosphere. Of course the sound designers had to create a fitting music. The myth says that the music playing in Lavender town includes Binormal beats or binormal sounds. The result of it is that the people who play the game get depressed because of the music. The myth is pushed so far that supposedly after the release of Pokémon green 100 japanese kids killed theirselves.
That is not confirmed, and people are pretty sure it is not true.

What are binormal beats?

Special about binormal beats is, that two slightly different frequencies act on the body, for example 350 hz on the right ear and 340 on the left. With this method, the sound arises in the brain instead of the ear, and with accordingly matching music, which expresses different feelings in general, it tiggers specific feelings for the human. By playing 350 hz on the one and 240 hz on the other ear, a sound of 345 hz arises. Thereby, that the sound arises in the brain, it is "open" for the other music which is also included, and about Pokémon green the legend is going round that this method was used that the depressing music penetrates better and the sad and creepy atmosphere the city Lavander town expresses is conveyed well and makes the human feel depressed. The music of Pokémon green in Japan is supposedly different then the later released Versions in America and Europe, so that the binormal beats are not included anymore.

An Anime magazine has shown a soundtrack of the Lavander town music, in which a image of a "Pokémon ghost" and a lettering of unown was included. Unown are Pokémon which represent letters, each of them one, but at the time of Pokémon green those unown didn't exist. The Pokémon in the soundtrack make the two words "leave" and "now". This soundtrack came from a video on youtube, where someone claims that they found it at his friend's house, who occupied with the music and killed himself soon after. But that can't be true, since the soundtrack was changed later on.

There are many different opinions about this internet legend, to me it's just nonesense. If you want to you can tell me your opinion about it, but I actually was a little shocked when I heard about it. But that binormal beats can manipulate feelings is really true...I spent some time finding out more about them, and listened to a few ones. It's a little creepy...
